Sewing Project # 1

I just finished a HUGE sewing project that took about 20+ hours.  Last Christmas, my mom had gifted Ben and my brother-in-law Nick with the promise of a new winter coat.  This fall she asked if I wanted to help sew and we'd each sew a coat at the same time. For the last couple weeks I've been spending a good deal of time behind the machine(and my back is paying for it!) but the finished product is SO worth it. A lot of little pieces and finicky sewing and voila! Ben and Nick have new winter coats. I have to admit, I am very happy and slightly proud of the finished product. Of course the good-looking model only adds to it :-)

21 months

Katie is almost 2! I'm still trying to come to terms with the fact that I have an almost-two-year-old and that she'll be a big sister in 6-8 weeks!

Katie talks. All day. Seriously. All day. In the form of questions. In a really cute high-pitched voice. She needs confirmation for pretty much everything. It goes like this:

Katie: Book? Book? Read it? Ya? book? book?

Me: Yes, that's a book. You can read it.

Katie: Ya? book? Read it? Oookaay! Ya.... read it.Puppy? Puppy read it?

Me: Is puppy going to read too?

Katie: Ya? Puppy?  Ookaay!

Sits down an flips through the book for a few minutes.

Katie: All done? Ya? All done book? Ya?

Me: Ya, are you all done?

Katie: Ya! Ookaay! way? Way?

Me: You want to put it away?

Katie: Ya! Oookayy!

And then she takes the book back, and gets another we repeat the process. Almost all of our conversations go like this. Thankfully she is in her playpen for at least two hours every morning and is in bed for at least three hours in the afternoon.

She has a HUGE vocabulary! For my own sake I'm going to write down a summary of things she says and knows so I won't forget as my mind is prone to do.

All her body parts: Head, feet, elbows, knees, toes, bellybutton, fingers, legs, arms, eyes, ears etc.

Fruit and many vegatables: bananas, apples, pears, peaches, oranges, peppers, carrots, beans, broccoli etc.

Aunts and uncles and adoptive aunts and uncles, cousins, kids in the church nursery, grandpas and grandma, opas and omas.

Rooms in the house and furniture: kitchen, couch, chair, den, playpen.

Lots of verbs: eat, walk, say, pray, sit.

She can walk backwards and does so a lot!

She wants "Niiicee cwem" on her bum at almost every diaper change.

She's starting to "flip" when I take her to the nursery at church or leave her anywhere.

She can recognize landmarks and usually knows where we're going: my parents, church, Ben's work, past Jumbo etc.

She can do small tasks like take something and put it in the garbage(a favourite thing to do), bring something to one of us.

She loves blankets and wrapping her stuffed animals and dolls in blankets and putting them to bed. She also "goes to sleep" on the floor frequently throughout the day with blankets.

She will mimick almost anything you say, not always well, but she'll try anyways!

She wants to use her fork and spoon herself.

She knows she's cute and is sometimes a showoff!

She has an amazing imagination(I think): she'll sit sideways on a chair, hold onto one of the back spindles, lean back and say "weeeeee!" pretending it's a swing.

She has a temper and is starting to show it.

She'll get mad at her toys or anything that doesn't go her way and say "No! No! No!" to them.

She usually has a smile for everyone and will wave and say Hi.

She is fighting bedtime with a passion.

She makes me laugh and smile too many times to count throughout the day.

She is such a blessing and we're thankful for every moment we have with her!

Happiness is...

having a clean house on Thursday and only having to clean bathrooms and fold laundry on Friday.
having a little girl give kisses and squeezes every morning without any prompting
having a husband that takes out the garbage every week(I've done it once since we've been married)
having a counter free of dishes in the morning
having a girlie who still plays in her playpen for at least two hours every morning
having a husband that makes me tea every morning
hearing a little voice 'ChooChoo' her banana pieces into her mouth at breakfast time
feeling wiggles and jabs(however painful) from this 34 week old baby
receiving hugs and pats 'for the baby' from his/her big sister

teBokkel family pictures

A few of us entered my parents to win a free photoshoot from Red Rubber Studios this past summer and much to our surprise and excitement, they won!

We all got together a few weekends ago for the shoot and here are some of the wonderful results! Thanks so much Matt & Julianna!

You should be able to click on the pictures to make them bigger.

Some more random ramblings

As I write this, Katie is sitting on the couch, propped up with pillows and a blanket reading her books. She's been sitting there for about 10 minutes; I hope this will be a regular occurrence!

My Christmas pictures are almost ready for printing.

The one side of my kitchen counter is so full of dishes I can hardly see it.

Seven more weeks until this baby is due. There was some confusion with my last post as I said I was three weeks ahead... I meant I had lost track of how far I was. Can you say second pregnancy? My due date remains the same: Dec 29th(or mine Jan 4th :-)

Ben has started working on Katie's new room; nothing like a little pressure to get you working!

My list of fall things has decreased slightly: pies done, meatballs done, carrots pulled, blanched and put in the freezer.Still to do: squash...

I reach my max for tums pretty much every day.

I didn't realize time change would have such an effect on Katie. Who knew an hour could make such a difference; I guess she really does have an internal clock.

The windshield wiper on the back of our car finally works again. It stopped working in the spring and didn't work until Ben fixed it a few weeks ago. I am still so impressed with my husband. He spent a couple hours on a Saturday at his shop at work: changing the oil, putting new windshield wipers on the car, taking part the back of the car and fixing the wiper motor, changing and filling all the fluids, checking air filters etc.

I haven't done our finances since before summer(I won't tell you how far) and I'm scared to start.... the pile is just SO big!!!

Flannel sheets went on the bed last week and they sleep so cozy!

I'm starting to get excited about Christmas....starting.... that doesn't mean that I need to hear Christmas carols yet.....

I'm currently working on three knitting projects, technically two crochet projects, two crafty projects, two sewing projects with four others started in my head....

Katie's hair is finally long enough for pigtails.... at least for the morning...

This baby is starting  IS very pokey and I'm pushing in knees, elbows, feet etc.

Katie is done her time on the couch and the dishes are calling me so this is it for now!
