Farm visit

We went for a visit to Annette Pennings a few weeks ago. We went last year around the same time for a Rhubarb harvest and farm visit. Katie has been talking for the past year (I kid you not) about the "chick dat I hold in my hand" so she was thrilled to repeat the process. Thanks for having us and for the pictures, Annette!

Rose Wreath

I saw a picture on Pinterest (big surprise I know) and wanted one just like it.  I have trouble with "creative" license. The trouble being, I don't like to take it. If I see something I like, I usually want that exact one, not one that I tweaked. I'm scared of tweaking. This one I didn't mean to tweak, it just happened. But now, I like it; ok LOVE it!

Inspiration

I used the same "techniques" she did. Click HERE to see her tutorial. I use unbleached coffee filters in my coffee pot so that's what I had on hand when I decided one morning to start painting coffee filters. It was to my advantage as it gave the look I wanted, especially since I was just using my kids' finger paint mixed with water. I can't remember how many filters I used, maybe 200? I had them all drying in my kitchen on string strung back and forth. I spent a morning painting these filters and I may or may not have been in my pajamas for a good portion. You may ask where my kids were? Emma was in bed for a good portion of the morning and Katie was probably playing or watching me or watching a Road to Avonlea with me.  Again, my memory fails. I have no pictures of the actual process only the final product. It took hours, literally, (that's for you Hanna), to do it all. And then the roses sat in a basket for a week or two, or three, maybe four (there's that memory again) until I finally glued them on a wreath frame.  But by now, I'm sure you're all dying of curiosity to know what my wreath looks like. Ok here you go!

Ya want another look? Ok ok, here you go!

I think it was totally worth my time since I get to keep it in my house and enjoy it! This baby is gonna be up there for a while!

Picnic at Jumbo

Like any other St. Thomas kids, our kids LOVE Jumbo. They say "Boo!" to Jumbo every time we drive by. It's a big deal. Last Saturday we went for a walk to the library, then past Subway to grab some supper and to Jumbo for an impromptu picnic.

A little place for a little girl

After we moved Katie's toys downstairs into the new playroom, the den was nice and "empty." The babyish toys and books still stay upstairs so I rearranged things a little to make a little play spot for Emma.

My Katie Girl

Prepare for picture overload. Trust me, this is even a whittled-down bunch. She looked so pretty that morning in her new jeandress and curls, I couldn't help myself.

This one is blurry, but captures her perfectly!

I love that her hair curls like this all by itself!
She was going shopping!

LOVE this one!

See ya!

Corina's visit

Corina made her yearly pilgramiage to the VMS household this year in April! It was a total surprise to us, even Ben didn't know! She had been in cahoots with my mother and only a few others knew and kept the secret.

I came home from a bridal shower to find my Corina sitting in my living room just as you please. It's a good thing no one was videotaping me, or I would have been forced to put it on here and you all would have seen my *ahem* loud reaction and jumping up and down when I saw her.

We had a lovely visit and many, many chats. It's true that bosom friends really never run out of things to talk about. We shared many laughs, watched movies and tv shows, ate grilled cheese, drank coffee, went for walks. Thanks Corina for doing lots of dishes, watching kids, entertaining kids, taking Katie for how many? walks and the many many talks!

Emma 17 months

What can I say about my Emma at 17 months.

She still scoots around on her bum. She doesn't like to try to walk and will just try to sit down if you make her. She doesn't mind standing, but not for long.
Emma learned how to blow this train whistle a while ago and was pretty pleased with herself too.

She naps every couple mornings, or when she's really cranky for an hour or so. She also naps every afternoon for at least three hours.

She's in bed everynight at 7pm and usually sleeps until 7:30/8am.

She's a pretty decent eater, but is impatient and loves to stuff her face. We have to watch her and only give her a few pieces on her tray at a time.

She LOVES her daddy and usually calls for him every morning as I bring her downstairs.

She's also a totally mommy's girl and will very often burst into tears if I ask someone else to hold her at church, even Ben!

She likes lots of people and enjoys watching other kids.
She loves music and will start swaying and bopping to most songs and usually bops with the beat.

She whines. A. lot. She's always been a whiner, since day one, but it's getting worse and louder. I think it's mostly her frustration of not being about to talk, but she whines. Loudly. I'm teaching her more sign language, which I think is helping.

She enjoys a good joke and her favourite is to say "dada" when I ask her to "mama

She is stubborn. That little chin goes up in defiance more than I'd like. The problem is, she does it with such a cheeky grin on her face and twinkle in her eye, it's hard not to laugh at her.

She loves Katie, but knows exactly how to pest her. Katie however, doesn't have a lot of patience for Emma.

She's a flirt. She loves to be coy with certain people, mostly men.

She sucks her right thumb, but occasionally seems to favour her left hand when picking up toys, eating etc... hmmmm......

I can quite often "catch" her on time to use the potty. Saves me a dirty diaper! She also will frequently pee on the potty. I haven't been ambitious enough to try all day though. Until she can talk, there isn't really any way she can tell me that she has to go.

She loves the sandbox and will sit on the bench all morning turning around and playing.

She gets annoyed by conventional things done to toddlers. Don't try to coochiecoo her or tickle her whenever, she'll squawck her annoyance.

She's a love and such a boof. She can make us laugh many times with her antics and her silliness!
