Big Girl=New Sheets

I think I can finally say that Emma is potty trained! We are ALL very excited and I am thrilled to now only change one kid's diaper each day! It took Emma a bit longer than Katie, but she's got it now. A few weeks ago we had a "home" week and really focused on potty training. We had done it off and on a bit in the months prior, but it just ended up being frustrating since Emma didn't tell me when she had to go, or that she went (only evidence was a puddle) and she didn't really seem to care either. After a week in underwear (during the day) she pretty much had it and would tell me when she had to go. I still need to remind her sometimes, but she's been accident free for a whole week now. She wore a diaper to bed at naptime and bedtime, but I started putting her in underwear at naptime(with plastic and towels under her sheet just in case!) at the beginning of the week since she was consistently waking up dry. On Tuesday, after two nights of being dry, Ben was feeling brave and put her to bed in underwear (EEE!!) and she was dry the next morning! Yesterday we gave her the promised present of new sheets for being dry through the night for three nights and she was thrilled to match Katie!

Katie didn't want to be left out.

Flip Lip

I know I'm a mean mom, but when my daughter both flipped at this, I had to try it with their brother too.

And to prove I'm not such a terrible mom, this was moments later.

I've been watching on a couple of second-hand sites for a second hand playhouse for the girls. We don't have a huge backyard so I don't want it full of tons of toys to entertain the girls when they're outside. They have a small sandbox, tricycle and ride-on car toy, but besides that and a few balls to toss around they're left to their own imagination. Don't get my wrong, imagination is great and I love it and encourage it, but sometimes it can use a little help. Before Ben finished the sidewalk to the garage, there was a stack of stones under the big tree which they made into a kitchen, but that disappeared a few months ago. Anyways, long story short. I wanted a playhouse, and I finally found one for only $20!

Excuse the leftover snack on her face!

Four Months

Alex turned four months last week! That means in less than two months solids will be joining his menu. Let me just say, I. Am. NOT. Ready!  He needs to be my baby and solids means he's growing into a little boy.

Some notes about my Alex:

He nurses 5-6 times each day: 7:30am, 11am, 1:30pm, 5pm and 7:30 (or 4:30pm 6:30pm and 8pm).

He has two main naps in his bed each day 8:30/9am-11am and then from 2pm-4:30/5pm. He often falls asleep in his playpen from 12:30-1:30 and again from 6:30-7:30pm.

He generally sleeps 10-11 hours each night. He gets his last snack around 8pm and usually sleeps anywhere from 6:30-7:30. Sometimes he's a stinker and wakes up early or thinks he needs a snack at 4am, but that's not to common, thankfully!

He is a ridiculously content baby. He rarely cries, unless he's "starving." And for the rest is predictable and easy.

He fusses when he needs to sleep, but not for long.

He loves his puppy and "snuffles" (is that word?) when he goes to bed. It stays in his crib, unless we go out, so it's an excellent cue for sleep.

He is really, really, really long. His length is all in his torso. He wears 9 month onsies and 3-6 month pants which are plenty long on him.

He has smiles for almost everyone and does this adorable head/shoulder wag like he's playing coy.

Here are some pictures of Alex at 4 months. Prepare for cuteness overload!

For my own reference--The above was a routine I had with Katie, so when Alex was three months and nursing on the dot every 3-3.5 hours (6times during the day) I started working towards this routine which fits my day very well. I also cut out his dream feed when he was about three months and I think it actually made him sleep better and longer at night. I think I was disrupting his sleep cycle because he was waking up at 3:30am. I figured if he was going to wake up 3:30, I might as well cut out the 10pm feeding and go to bed earlier so I could get a longer chunk of sleep. But then he just slept until 6ish so it was a win win!

Kattenberg visit

Mom & Dad Kattenberg came for a visit at the end of July. Since Ben's parents were in Holland, they graciously let Mom and Dad K use their house! But even though they were sleeping elsewhere, Mom and Dad still came frequently for coffee and supper. We thoroughly enjoyed having them and we were sad at the end of two weeks when they had to go home.

We had lovely weather when they were here and could have coffee outside most days!
They brought gifts for us all. Katie was THRILLED with her princess shoes, purse, earrings etc!
Emma got a wooden, magnetic doll to dress. Her squeals of delight said it all!
Alex is loving his new carseat toy and his shirts will fit him perfectly this fall!

I got yummy tea from David's tea to add to my collection!

Thanks SO much for coming! We love you and miss you already!

Summer pool fun

We had a few hot days this summer for the girls to play in the pool. Provided the water was warm enough, they loved it!

Start 'em young! I have to keep my eye on her though because she'll just keep eating them raw!
This is my amazing husband who tips and tails my beans for me!
The girls helped too of course!

This is his "stop taking pictures" face. lol!

These girls will colour for hours. Last week Katie sat at the table and coloured for three hours straight. No. Joke. I don't complain. It's great fine motor skills, keeps her quiet and when Emma is there, helps her share with her sister!

By the way, that crown is pretty much a permanent fixture on her head.
