Random moments to remember

I found this in my drafts post and it made me smile to remember these things I actually forgot about!

Waking up at 2:30am in the middle of a thunderstorm to hear the girls talking in their room. I went to check on them and they were wide awake with the curtain half open "watching the thunderstorm and talking about God."

Feeding Alex lunch and while popping a piece of bread in his mouth, he bit my finger. Of course I was shocked and yelped which made him burst into tears. I consoled him and hugged him and he directed my face straight to his and gave me the "I love you" sign (hand down the side of one cheek) . Melty!

Emma and I had a discussion regarding her frustration when things don't go her way. I told her instead of just "ughing!!!!' she could say "frustrated!" She said it was too hard, so I suggested saying "Alligator!" instead.  Well a few days go by and while I'm trying to put stuff away in a drawer, she keeps closing it on me. I kind of lost it on her and harshly told her to leave it alone. She of course ran away crying and I then followed to apologizie. She asked me why I yelled and I explained that I was frustrated that she wouldn't listen and kept closing the drawer.  She replied, "Mom, you should have said Agilator!"

In the spring when the Magnolia trees were in bloom throughout the city I pointed them out to the girls while driving to various locations. They would exclaim with delight at the big ones, littles ones, pink and purple alike. One day we drove by a particularly big tree which I pointed out to Katie she responded with "Oh it's SOO beautiful! I can't bear it!"  "You can't bear it?" I asked. "No, it's just SO beautiful, I can't bear to look at it!"  She is slightly dramatic!

For the past couple years, since our kids have been old enough to understand, we've started celebrating SinterKlaas. It's a Dutch tradition that Ben's family faithfully did when the kids were small and we did off and on throughout my childhood. Just Google Saint Nicholas for the story. Anyways, here are a few pictures.

They were awake very early, wondering with gleeful anticipation if SinterKlaas had come!
Sleepy, not sure what's going on.....
 Let's check our boots!
This girl's hair is seriously getting long!
HOW did SinterKlaas know they like Frozen!??!

Katie can't believe she got Lego! As SinterKlaas told her in his letter, "he heard she liked lego!"
And SinterKlaas said Emma was big enough for Playmobile!

 Still not sure....
Can't hold on to all her "loot"!

Emma is four!

My little EmmaBoBemma is four already! She's been little for so long, but in the last few months she's suddenly grown, literally. She's taller, feet are finally in a "normal" size and she's a little girl, not a toddler anymore. She was a toddler for a long time, but no longer!

As we did with Katie, we gave Emma a bear for her birthday and her beloved puppy was "shelved." The whole point behind us cruelly taking away her beloved puppy is that it's a cue for thumb sucking. With Katie we had zero issues when we took her puppy away; not one battle with thumb sucking.  We were expecting a much different reaction with Emma, as she just LOVED her puppy, but so far she's doing amazing! She hasn't asked for her puppy or whined about sucking her thumb. She did confess that she did it "just a little bit" the second night when she was falling asleep, but other than that, not at all! My little girl is growing up!

She knows her letters and numbers inside out and is getting better at writing them. She learns a lot of things alongside Katie and surprises us with her knowledge! She can't wait until she can read and Katie "helps" her read by telling her what the sentence says, so then Emma can "read" it. She also had a few boardbooks memorized and "reads" them to Alex, which he loves and is super adorable.

 Yummy girl!

This was her request: a chocolate teddy bear, strawberry cake.

She got to open two presents before Daddy went to work.

Her OWN pencil case, pencil crayons, glue and scissors.

 Her new teddy bear

New socks and underwear--she was thrilled!

 A new Sunday coat.

Hungry Hippos--the new favourite game!
